Once there was a little dog named Kirby.
He was a very lonely boy.
He lived on the street and every day he wondered why he didn’t have a family.
One day a nice man picked him up and brought him to a place called a Rescue.
He was there with lots of other dogs.
And every day another dog would go home with a new family.
But not Kirby.
Many people came to see him but no one wanted to take him home.
They said he was too much trouble.
Kirby was real skinny and had funny hair and had to pee all the time.
He had trouble walking and sounded like he was choking sometimes.
His legs, hips, pelvis and tail had been broken.
He had to take medicine and eat special food.
And he had the saddest eyes.
Because he had owies in his eyes so he couldn’t open them.
One day a nice lady decided she wanted to adopt a dog.
She wanted a little boy who was smart and kind and funny and could learn to be a Therapy Dog.
Kirby sounded like the perfect dog and she didn’t think he was too much trouble at all.
She loved him right away and he made her very happy.
Kirby went to a new doctor and had some operations to make him feel better.
He soon learned everything his new Mom could teach him and he loved riding in his stroller.
Kirby became a Therapy Dog and soon he was working every day, making people happy, and teaching them about adopting dogs and giving them new families.
Now Kirby knew why it took him so long to find his Forever Home – he had to wait for Sue to look for him.
