Las Vegas youth have an exciting place to go to learn about being kind and gentle and respectful of all living things … the Everything Dog class presented by RISE Educational Resource Center.
The four classes cover everything from learning about the different breeds, how to choose the right dog for your family, what it means to be a responsible dog owner, and how to teach your dog with positive training methods.
Then the class moves on to discussions about “do dogs have feelings” and how every living being deserves to be respected and cared for.
Through the eyes of the dogs the students learn about rescue and dogs with special needs and what it means to be bullied and how dogs can then become the bullies themselves.
All the participating dogs are Delta Pet Partner Love Dogs therapy dogs and the students soon have favorites. Perhaps it is Dash, the shy Italian Greyhound a quiet child will relate to. Or Kirby, the dog with many special needs one special child may cuddle up to. Or Benny, the dog that was once deemed unadoptable that creeps into the heart of the child with his own set of issues.
Somewhere between week one and week four, the group of students reach out and share their own experiences with the dogs and their owners.
Somewhere between talking about breeds and caring for an animal the students learn to be kind to one another.
