Kirby had his six week check up with his orthopedic surgeon. I knew he was healing slower than when he had the other knee repaired. But he was walking and seemed to be coming along.
Kirby seems very apprehensive about this appointment. He was agitated and did not want to sit quietly in the car. How does he know where we are going? He always loves car rides!
In the waiting area he was very clingy and I had to hold him to keep him from trying to run on the slippery floor.
The nurse came out to get him for the radiograph and he did not want to go with her. But he did. Half an hour later we were called into a room to speak with the surgeon.
Well the knee is not stable and it appears an internal suture came loose and is causing the problems.
So back he goes for a “quick repair”.
But nothing is quick or simple with an older dog that has had so many procedures. Anesthesia is always a concern and the healing process itself takes a real toll on his little body.
And as soon as his hair starts growing back, it gets shaved again! Those skinny little legs look so frail without hair.
Kirby must have known this would not be a good report because he really did nor want to go in to see the doctor when they were ready for us.
But in a week he will have the surgery and hopefully have four good legs to take him through the next few years.
