After a summer break the Love Dogs returned to the RISE Educational Resource Center for our Reading with the Love Dogs program. This program is open to any student who wishes to attend and it is FREE. Most of the kids are home schooled and RISE brings them together for a broad variety of classes.
The kids missed the dogs and were so happy to see us again. We only had two dogs for this session, Benny and Cassidy, but they did a great job of making every child feel special.
Many of the children asked about Kirby so we had a brief discussion about loss and love and they all expressed their sorrow that he passed away. Then some of the children reached out for Benny to give him hugs. They wanted him to know they were sorry he lost his brother.
This was a natural time to tell them about Petey! So we changed the subject to a happier one and I told everyone about our new little dog. They were excited to see his picture and can’t wait to meet him in a few months once he has passed his Pet Partner test! They all wished him well.
Cassidy was the star of the day however! Many of the kids had never met her and had never met an Airedale so this was a great opportunity to learn about different breeds.
Cassidy was certainly in her element. The more kids she had surrounding her, the more she liked it.
Next Readings we will have more dogs with us and hopefully even more kids reading!
Check out the schedule of classes and events for RISE at www.riseresourcecenter.org and come meet the Love Dogs on October 1, November 19 and December 17 at 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
