Several of the Love Dog teams went to work as usual on Saturday but it had a slightly different feel. It was national Make a Difference Day and perhaps it just solidified why we do this thing called volunteering.
Benny was especially happy because he got to visit a facility he had not been to in a while. It was Kirby’s assignment and since losing Kirby, we have not been there as often. Benny usually does not shine in this environment but he did yesterday! Many of the staff and residents did not know about Kirby’s passing so we spent some time sharing fond stories about the little dog.
And there were so many new people to meet. This is what made it fun for Benny.
But the highlight of our day was when we visited someone Benny had met before and took a real liking to. They just snuggled up like old friends.
And another of our team went to her usual Saturday assignment but perhaps something different was in the air. The photos she sent to me were spectacular, showing real warmth and joy. Cedar has made such breakthroughs with the children she spends time with weekly and the joy on one boy’s face cannot be denied.
Everyone should feel proud of what they did on this day, but most importantly what they do for their community EVERY day.
