When a therapy dog is tired …

Benny’s reward for a job we’ll done – cuddling

Benny loves working as a therapy dog. He has his favorite assignments and spends four days a week doing what he was meant to do.

He works with special children and truly understands how valuable the time spent with them can be. He is always happy to try new behaviors and learn new things to do with the children. As soon as he sees his Pet Partner vest come out, he sits and wags his tail. “Let’s go.”

He is always happy to get in the car and go somewhere.

But this work is emotional and often tiring. He frequently falls asleep in the car on the way home and is a very satisfied pup indeed.

It is very important to vary his work and have him do simpler things in between. The other days of the week he does basic visiting. So those are the days he can rest. He loves sitting on someone’s lap and just chilling. He loves cuddling up and being cradled in someone’s arms. He knows he doesn’t have to “do” anything but love them.

So this week while Benny had four extraordinary days helping bring about breakthroughs, he also had time spent just being loved. And they call this work!
