We are still investigating what is happening with little Petey, so he did not go to work at all this week. He spent three days at our vet on intravenous fluids and had X-rays and an ultrasound.
He came home yesterday and is extremely tired. This experience has just worn out the tiny dog.
It is so easy to dehydrate a dog of his size and so easy to overlook symptoms. I did notice a few however so we were off to the vet in time. I hate to think what could have happened if I did not recognize the signs and bring him in for medical attention.
We hope to know more by Monday and now are just giving him supportive care. I am making sure he has fluids even if I need to administer water with a syringe. Making sure he goes out very frequently to eliminate as he is urinating much more frequently. He even had his first accident in the house but he just couldn’t hold it.
He is sleeping most of the day. Benny is curling up next to him as I don’t think he wants to take his eyes off his brother. Somehow he knows to leave him alone and just be close.
Just as he did with sweet Kirby.
So for the first time in any months we did not do any volunteering this week. We all miss it and know our clients miss both Petey and Benny.
But everyone has been extremely kind and they understand that Benny can’t just slip into Petey’s assignments and why I needed to be home this week with Petey.
Let’s wish the little guy a quick recovery so he can be his perky little self again soon for all those who love him so much.
