Some of the places the Love Dogs volunteer are confidential. They have never welcomed volunteers in before, not two or four-legged.
They were not sure how the clients would respond to the animals.
They were not sure how the dogs would respond to the clients.
Sometimes I participate in a pilot program with my own dogs for over a year before inviting other teams in.
Sometimes it remains just me and my dogs.
Two days a week I am on these special assignments, with either Petey or Benny.
Sometimes we have busy days and sometimes it’s just one on one.
Sometimes we spend 15 minutes and sometimes two hours.
Sometimes I come home and so wish I could share what happened that day.
Sometimes I come home and can’t forget what happened that day.
Sometimes I just want to share how my Benny or Petey reacted to someone new or someone they saw before.
Share how I may have been surprised by something said or seen or warmed to my heart by something someone said or did.
Share how proud I am of my dogs and their ability to gauge the situation and know exactly what to do, or not do.
Share the breakthroughs, the setbacks.
Share the knowledge that what we do to harness the power of the animals is real.
It is powerful.
It is needed.
