Yesterday was Giving Tuesday and what better way to celebrate giving back than to bring the Love Dogs back to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
We brought seven therapy teams to the Lied Library and hundreds of students stopped by to meet them. The line began out the door when we arrived and students were let into the room little by little. We never want to overwhelm the dogs so we staggered the crowds. But it was still a lot of hands on our dogs!
And they loved it.
The students visited with a broad variety of breeds and enjoyed chatting with the handlers and hearing about what they do as volunteers with their animals.
One student told me she has four dogs but none of them would be so calm and quiet especially with other dogs so close and tons of new people. I think she may become a dog training client of mine! I explained how first we identify the natural temperament of the animals and insure they are truly people centric. Then we begin with solid positive training and progress to the Pet Partner Handler Workshop.
Twelve students expressed an interest in learning how to become volunteers with the Love Dogs, without their own animal. We welcome non-animal volunteers and hope they pursue this adventure with us. And two want to pursue the goal with their pets.
Giving Tuesday was such a success that we are returning to UNLV today and maybe we will start the trend for Giving Wednesday!
