Love Dog of the Week: Pumpernickel

Pumpernickel and Elsa

Pumpernickel and Elsa

Pumpernickel was left at the vet’s office, basically starved. Once a breeding male, his previous owners did not feed him regularly because they did not want him to have accidents in his kennel. The kennel he was kept in all day and night. A lovely young woman who was working at the office met him and knew right away he was meant to be her dog. He was a black Pug but so very skinny, not even ten pounds. But soon, under her diligent and tender care, he blossomed into the handsome dog he is today. She wanted him to have a very unusual name thus he became Pumpernickel, and it fits so well!

Soon she realized he had something very special about him. Yes he gained weight and was healthy again. But more importantly it was his stellar temperament that set him apart. Already a senior little dog, he embarked on a whole new life with his adoptive family and became a Pet Partners registered therapy dog. He joined the Las Vegas Love Dog team and started volunteering at a variety of facilities.

And he loves to read!

And he loves to read!

But he really showed his talent in schools, teaching about responsible pet ownership, and care and love. This is Pumpernickel’s most important job and so he thrives on going to work. He is quiet, steady, calm, funny and loves to read!

Congratulations to our Love Dog of the Week Pumpernickel!
