Sometimes people have several pets and they choose one to go through the therapy program. But often the animal the owner thinks is appropriate or ready for therapy work is not the one who is really suitable! Such is the case with two beautiful Yellow Labs. The female was presented to me to go through the program. However she is an older girl with arthritic hips and the desire to just rest and not have to learn new things. She is easily stressed when asked to do certain tasks and just wants to turn over for a nice belly rub!
Her brother however is a fantastic candidate for Love Dogs! He is younger, extremely interested in learning new things and very smart. He is at the age in his life he needs something to do and this job may be the perfect one for him. He is loving and calm and eager to please.
So be open to the reality of your pets and look at what really makes a Love Dog and trust that the right dog will make the cut!
