The Dog with the Big Smile

It's no fun to be alone

It's no fun to be alone

I had no mommy or daddy.

But I had lots of brothers and sisters.

And they all needed a home.

I was a very goofy puppy

I was a very goofy puppy

One day a nice lady visited all the puppies.

Some were fat, some were skinny.

Some were fast, some were slow.

Some were boys, some were girls.

Some were happy, some were sad.

I really was a cute puppy

I really was a cute puppy

Then she saw one puppy that didn’t look like any of the others.

I was very tall and had a great big smile.

No matter where she turned, I was looking at her – and smiling

Everyone says I have the biggest smile

Everyone says I have the biggest smile

She said to herself “That’s my dog”

So that’s how I found my new mommy.

I went home with her and found I also had a new sister – wow!

My sister Maggie

My sister Maggie

But I was very confused.

Why was I in a new home with a new sister and a new mommy?

I barked and barked and barked.

I jumped and jumped and jumped.

I ran and ran and ran.

I became very sad

I became very sad

And then I lost my big smile.

It took many weeks to feel safe and happy in my new home.

I started to trust my new mommy and love my new sister.

I learned how to be a good dog and be kind and loving and one day something amazing happened…

I'm a Delta Dog now

I'm a Delta Dog now

I became a Delta Therapy Dog!

Mommy took me to all sorts of places like the Library and Schools.

I love going to schools

I love going to schools

Children really liked me a lot and everyone smiled at me

I now know why I was in my new home with a new family

It was so I could become a Love Dog

George got his great big smile back!

George got his great big smile back!

AND THAT’S WHEN MY SMILE CAME BACK!

Does Bailey get his wish?

I had such a good life
I had such a good life

I had a nice life.

I had a Mom and Dad.

I had toys and a nice bed.

I had a house and delicious food.

I wish I had some children to play with

I wish I had some children to play with

But every day I made one wish.

“Please send me some children to love.”

But days went by

Then months went by

I was very sad

I was very sad

Even years went by

No children ever arrived.

I began to wonder if I should stop wishing.

But my mom and Dad told me they to wished for children and they would never stop

So I decided my wish needed to be more special.

Mom promised me a family

Mom promised me a family

“Please send me a Brother and a Sister”

And one day something remarkable happened.

Mom and Dad came home with Not One Child but TWO!

A Brother and a Sister.

“Just as we adopted you Bailey,” Mom said, “We adopted a Brother and a Sister for our family.”

Having a family made me feel young again

Having a family made me feel young again

So, now as an older dog that spent most of my day resting in the sun, I began to jump and play and understand how to be a Big Brother.

I even went to school and became a Delta Therapy Dog.

I love going to work

I love going to work

And every day I grew to love my family more and more.

“I’m glad I never gave up wishing because wishes DO come true.”

The Dog Left Behind

I don't know why I lwas left behind

I don't know why I lwas left behind

I had a family once

I had a house and a yard and lots of toys

I had plenty to eat and drink

I had people to love

I hoped someone would adopt me

I hoped someone would adopt me

Then one day all that was gone

I was left behind

I looked and looked and looked but could not find my family anywhere

People found me in the yard and took me to a place called a shelter

This was not a very nice shelter and a four year old dog did not have much hope of being adopted

I ws so happy to have a new mom

I ws so happy to have a new mom

But one day a nice lady came to visit the shelter

She was looking for

A black dog

A big dog

A nice dog

A lonely dog

A dog she could love

I was the perfect dog for her

My new family

My new family

So I went to live in my new home and soon had two other dogs to play with and one big black cat … and even a horse

I was soon winning blue ribbons

I was soon winning blue ribbons

I was soon doing agility and winning blue ribbons

Then one day I wanted to get a job like my brother Rocky

I am very proud to wear my Delta vest

I am very proud to wear my Delta vest

So I became a Delta Therapy Dog and now I work in schools and libraries and hospitals

I learned how to sit quietly and listen and pay attention and give lots and lots of love

I get to ride in the car and go to fun new places

I love dressing up!

I love dressing up!

I even get to dress up in costumes sometimes!

But my favorite part of working is spending time with my new Mom and making people happy because

Going to schools is a favorite thing to do

Going to schools is a favorite thing to do

I am a LOVE DOG

HOW KODA BECAME BRAVE

I was such a shy pup
I was such a shy pup

I was very handsome, with one brown eye and one blue eye

But I was shy

Some people don’t like shy puppies

I didn't know how to be a brave dog

I didn't know how to be a brave dog

They want the playful puppies

But one family met me and knew right away I was their puppy

They saw into my heart and liked my shy personality

I went H O M E and became a Goebel

I loved my new name

I loved my new name

They called me many different names but my favorite was Koda!

Then they started calling me Koda Bear!

and I really liked that a lot!

But I was still very shy

I was afraid of everything

I was afraid of everything

I was afraid of lots of things

I was afraid of the

Dishwasher

Chairs

Other dogs

People

Mops

Brooms

Fireworks

And even water

My new family didn’t know how to help me but they spent a lot of time with me

I loved playing with my family

I loved playing with my family

They taught me lots of new things like how to

Come when Called

Rollover

Shake Paws

Sit and Stay

I love working and helping people

I love working and helping people

They taught me to be a Delta Therapy Dog and now I had a real job.

I even worked with others dogs, and that used to make me really scared.

Once I started thinking about how to do these things, guess what?

I wasn’t afraid anymore!

All the fears flew out of my mind because I was thinking about my family and the fun things I had learned to do

I love to jump really high

I love to jump really high

I really love to hike and travel the most. My family always takes me to amazing places like to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Yosemite

I love to play with my furry friends

I am also very athletic and love to

J U M P

J U M P

 J U M P

That’s what Australian Shepherds are very good at and …

I have the very best life

I have the very best life

When you do something you are good at your fears fly away.

And that’s how the shyest dog became the BRAVEST DOG.

The Dog in the Shopping Cart

I was such a scared puppy
I was such a scared puppy

Once upon a time little puppies were found in a shopping cart in the parking lot of a supermarket

I was one of those puppies.

I was very very tiny

I grew up to be a handsome boy

I grew up to be a handsome boy

I was very very hungry

I was very very thirsty

I was very very scared

I finally found my Mommy

I finally found my Mommy

I needed a Mommy

Nice people took the puppies and tried to find them homes and one lady decided the yellow one was just perfect for her family

She named me Rocky

I learned how to smile

I learned how to smile

I grew into a very handsome dog

I may have started out really small and lonely and scared but with lots of time and love and training and fun I grew into a very smart dog

My sisters Bingo and KC

My sisters Bingo and KC

I loved to play with my equine siblings and the other dogs and cat in my family

I loved to play with children

And I loved my new Mommy

Then I got older and when I was almost ten years old Mommy decided it was time to get a job!

How funny for a dog to have a job

Mommy takes me to the best places to meet new people

Mommy takes me to the best places to meet new people

So I became a therapy dog and now could spend all my time with the people I loved

Especially my Mom

We went to schools and hospitals and libraries together

So the tiny dog in the shopping cart grew up to be a hard working dog and now teaches people about rescue and adoption and

COCO THE LOVE DOG SEES WITH HER HEART

Coco was feeling really yucky

Coco was feeling really yucky

“I feel really yucky” Coco said one day.

“I am thirsty all the time”

“I am hungry all the time”

Coco was tired all the time

Coco was tired all the time

“I am sad all the time”

“I have to pee all the time”

“I am tired all the time”

“And I can’t see my Mommy’s red lipstick anymore”

“Maybe we should go to the Doctor,” said Mommy

I’m not afraid to go to the Doctor – she always makes me feel better.

I’m a brave dog.

The Doctor took a lot of tests. She squirted a little blood out of my paw.

Coco was so brave

Coco was so brave

She looked deep into my eyes.

She made me pee while she was looking.

That was embarrassing!

Then she said a word I had never heard before – Diabetes.

Yup – that’s what I have – diabetes.

I was a little bit scared but Mommy said “Don’t worry Coco. We will figure out how to make you better together.”

So Mom started giving me shots – something called insulin – twice a day.

They didn’t hurt.

I’m a brave dog.

Coco was still always happy even when she could not see

Coco was still always happy even when she could not see

And I did feel better.

I was not thirsty all the time.

I  was not hungry all the time.

I did not have to pee all the time.

Coco could see with her heart

Coco could see with her heart

But I still could not see my Mommy’s face. She looked all grey and blurry.

Everything looked grey and blurry.

All the bright colors I loved had gone away.

That’s when I learned I was blind.

But I didn’t have to see to know my Mommy was smiling.

Coco was always a beautiful girl with her red bows

Coco was always a beautiful girl with her red bows

And I didn’t have to see to know the children were laughing.

And I didn’t have to see to love with my heart.

Because I am a brave dog – I am Coco the Love Dog.
